The Woodlands Methodist School (TWMS), an outreach of The Woodlands Methodist Church (TWMC), is a private, Christian school (PK – 8th grade) serving students and families in the greater Woodlands area. FUNCTION
The Art Teacher is a dedicated resource who will encourage our students (K-grade 8) to develop their aesthetic understanding and appreciation while simultaneously developing their artistic skills and talents. The Art Teacher is responsible for providing the best possible learning environment for children assigned to the class by supporting the Guiding Principles of the school.
ACCOUNTABILITY
The Art Teacher reports to the Director of Middle School and is also accountable to the Director of Elementary and Head of School.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education or an appropriate major subject area are strongly preferred.
- Must hold a current Texas teaching certification.
- Good communication skills.
- Committed Christian, comfortable sharing their faith with students and families.
- Meet all certification requirements, which include fingerprinting and an extensive background check.
JOB DUTIES
Shall include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Create and maintain a classroom setting that meets accreditation expectations.
- Write and teach weekly lesson plans including skills and concepts based on the TEKS and supporting the Guiding Principles of TWMS.
- Keep individual records for each child as specified.
- Responsible for all Art activities to support and implement the art program; coordinate various art contests as well as school-wide events.
- Care for rooms and equipment. Report items needing repair or replacement and submit requests for additional equipment, materials and supplies.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and weekly team meetings.
- Meet school requirements for in-service training and professional growth in a timely manner.
- Attend annual school wide events.
- Assist with school-wide duties as assigned.
- Perform any other duties as requested by the school administration.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
CLASSIFICATION
The Art Teacher is a part-time, exempt position and is not benefits eligible.
